Riparian areas and Wetlands are a critical part of the landscape. High quality riparian areas and wetlands provide flood abatement, trap sediments and chemicals, provide shade that cools water, increase water, increase water infiltration into the ground, and are an essential part of wildlife and fish habitat. Many threatened and endangered plant and animal species are found in riparian areas and wetlands. Degradation of riparian and wetland areas results in the loss of many unique values. Landowners need to be cognizant of Best Management Practices when doing any land and resource management activities in or around riparian areas and wetlands.
